Corby Radio History

Corby Radio broadcasts as a Restricted Service License for 28 days.  We first broadcast in 1996 under the name Corby 108 and had a small makeshift studio in the cloakroom of the Festival Hall.

Ex-KCBC presenter Des Barber brought the team together as an experimental broadcast but was so successful that another broadcast was planned the following year.

In 1998 Corby Radio was given the use of the old doctors surgery in Neville House by town centre owners Tops Estates, who have been strong supporters of the station ever since. The team worked hard and turned the place into a studio complex that any full time station would be proud of with two full working on-air studios, newsroom, reception and staff room.  Unlike many stations that do not allow visitors, we love visitors and openly encourage our listeners to call in to see their favourite presenter or member of staff.

Every broadcast since then has gone from strength to strength and each year we support a worthwhile cause within the community, like the ‘Corby Kids Summer Camp Appeal’ run by Corby Borough Council which the team raised over ten thousand pounds over five broadcasts.

We moved in 2007 to The Connaughty Centre in Cottingham road and once again had to rebuild our studios (see picture gallery) but this time we built a training academy as part of our sudio complex to run interactively with Corby Radio, which will give everyone young and old the chance to obtain basic radio skills.

We handed in our Community licence application in january 2008 and are currently waiting for the decision from Ofcom.

Corby Radio has always been a strong supporter of Corby Council events and when we are granted a full time license will continue to do so.
