Rockingham Motor Speedway near Corby has hosted its last motor racing event, writes Stewart McNeill.

Developed on former steelworks land the speedway was opened by The Queen in 2001- with a distinctive oval track that was unique in the UK.

Early attractions included American stock cars and concerts from some big music names.

When the US-style racing moved on, Formula Three, British GT and British Touring Cars provided some of its regular motorsport fixtures.

However fears over its future where never far away and earlier this year a change of ownership meant a change in the use of the site and the chequered flag coming down on motorsport there.

Saturday's event of seven races in different classes was dubbed the "Rockingham Super Send Off".

It's understood from the start of next year the site will be used for automotive logistics.
