The Leader of the Labour Party has been in Corby today (Sep 8).

Jeremy Corbyn visited the Pen Green Centre for Children and Families on Rockingham Road. He spoke to staff and parents there after being welcomed by local Labour members and two pipers.

The site includes a Sure Start centre and Mr Corbyn has accused the government of not funding the centres properly. He's also criticised the government over issues they've had with a pledge to provide thirty hours of free childcare for three and four year-olds.

The government has said it is determined to support families with investment in affordable childcare in the years ahead.

Corby cause "Nightlight" say they are to continue their quest for a permanent base to help rough sleepers from.

It's after they said they would not be going ahead with their original plans to use a former veterinary surgery on Wood Street in the town centre.

Nightlight had won permission from the borough council for the move but say the landlord of the property was unwilling to go ahead with it.

Instead the charity say they have been offered temporary help ahead of the winter by a church in the town and that they still intend to try and help rough sleepers when the colder weather comes in.

Four people have been arrested after police received reports of people carrying shotguns in the Gretton Brook Road area of Corby.

Officers were called to the area on Tuesday, 5 September, when armed police attended the scene and arrested two men and two teenage boys.

An extensive search of the local area has taken place and a shotgun has been recovered.

Officers from CID investigating the incident would like to hear from anyone who may have any information about it. Anyone with information is asked to contact police on 101 or Crimestoppers anonymously on 0800 555 111.

The four men arrested in connection with the incident have been released from custody under investigation.

Made in Corby say the first of three planned festivals in the town for the years ahead will take place next July.

Arts activities for all are promised around the theme of "Water" over a weekend next year..with the plan that the events are curated in part from people in the town.

The Arts Council backed group want around ten people to join their community panel who would be involved in putting together a programme of outdoor performances, choosing artists and delivering marketing for the festival.
